5 Halloween Decorations Designers Always Buy at HomeGoods

Do not sleep on the glass pumpkins people!

Part of the fun of browsing HomeGoods is not knowing exactly what you’re going to find. That said, an experienced browser with a keen eye can count on finding something if they know where to look. Below, designers share five of their go-to Halloween purchases from HomeGoods that will add a festive, spooky touch to your home in an instant.

Keep an eye out for “‘old world spooky’ over in-your-face-pumpkins,” says Kelley Gable, the founder of Gable Interiors. Brass candlesticks, seasonal garlands with witch hats or bats, and gourd-shaped stoneware are just some of the things that Gable has picked up in the past.

Channel your inner decorating goth, says Paige Garland, the founder of Paige Garland Interior Design. “I would opt for things that are ambiguous and look a little gothic—black marble, vaguely ghost-shaped stuff,” she says. “Bring home a piece that looks like it could be haunted. I think that's the most fun way to decorate.”

Becky Carbone, the founder of Becky Carbone Interiors, also likes to stock up on brass candlesticks from HomeGoods. “Brass candlesticks are something I always grab and layer in for every holiday and season and change out the tapers for specific holidays,” she says. “They can give the overall set up a bit of an elevated feel.”

Look for items that you can repurpose after the haunted season has passed. “I love a good bust sculpture or a spikey bowl,” she says. “These are pieces that you can tone down as neutral decor but can also hold some candy or carry some faux spiderweb!”

October isn't just for witches and goblins. “Swapping in seasonal textiles like pillows and throws is a simple way to lean into the festive spirit without committing to a full room overhaul,” says Margie Kaercher, the founder of Hearth & Honey Homes. She finds that HomeGoods is an excellent resource for pillows of all shapes, sizes, and colors. “To ensure they coordinate seamlessly with your existing decor, choose Halloween-themed pillows and throws in neutral tones that complement the rest of your room,” Kaercher suggests. “This way, you can subtly incorporate festive touches while maintaining a cohesive everyday style and not get sick of your Halloween decor before Halloween!”

Carbone also likes to shop HomeGoods’ pillows and throws, picking up both autumnal pieces and ones that are Halloween-specific. “I found some great textured bat and witch pillows and a bat throw blanket, but the plaid flannel is so classic and can be used in other parts of the house throughout the winter and fall,” she says.

Carbone likes to browse through HomeGoods’s wooden signs with funny and seasonal sayings. “You can create a gallery wall using command strips so they can stay up for the month and not cause damage to your walls,” she says. “You can build your collection over time and have it grow every year.”

Valerie Darden, the founder of Brexton Cole Interiors, enjoys picking up decorative glass pumpkins to display on the coffee table. “They have them for around $12,” she says. “It’s a small touch but it adds so much.”
