We have all heard the comments that Father's just don't get the same kind of love on Father's Day as mothers do. Father's Day is June 18 and I thought it’d be cool to offer up some gift ideas for dads that would show appreciation for your father or father figure.

But, first to dispel a few of the myths. Although Father's Day has not been around as long as Mother's Day (it was made official in 1914), the day dedicated to dad did earn it's official holiday status in 1972. According to Finance Buzz, there are some 72 million fathers living in the U.S. now. And Americans don't mind spending money on dad either.

In fact, Americans plan to spend more than $22 billion buying gifts for the dads in their lives this Father's Day. Finance Buzz reports 75% of American adults WILL celebrate Father's Day in some way. Whether it's dinner out or a home-cooked meal, clothes, or electronics we don't mind letting dad know he's special.

Did you know Father's Day is the fourth-largest holiday for greeting card sales? (Followed by Christmas, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day) And the profile of ‘dad’ looks a lot different today. No more it's the father who goes off to work to bring home the bacon. Now more dads are ‘stay-at-home dads’ and that percentage of doubled from Generation X to millennials. The National Fatherhood Initiative says from July – September 2022, 141,000 dads did not have a paid job and stayed at home. In 2019, there were 105,000 fathers during the same period.

It's proof that who we call ‘dad’ isn't the ‘dad’ we used to know. Our dads are now more savvy, open-minded and non-traditional than what we may have been accustomed to. So, check out these products that not only celebrate fatherhood, but empower and highlight the Black entrepreneurial community.
